ITINERARY: PERTI ALTO – GROTTA DEL MULO – PERTI ALTO
By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS): you take the first way out to the right in the roundabout, and you drive on the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale SS1), direction Ventimiglia, for about 350 m. Then, you turn right to the SP490 until the roundabout in Finalborgo. You take the first way out and then you turn left joining the SP17. After 1,7 km of driving, you will have to turn right following the signal “Perti Alto” into a narrow and uphill road. This road leads to the square of Perti Alto, where you can park your car.

The trail is well signaled and the first part is challenging uphill
In the square of Perti Alto, on the left side of the church (near the war memorial), starts the trail that leads to the Finale’s quarry in “Rocca di Perti”. You have to travel along this trail for about 150 meters, until a deviation starts on the right. This is the most challenging part of the itinerary, as the trail climbs the peak of the “Rocca di Perti” in about 800 meters. Then, you are going to encounter a new fork that has to be ignored. Just a bit after that you will arrive above the quarry, enjoying a beautiful landscape.
The trail is now going deep into the woods, merging (after 600 meters) with a bigger trail called “Sentiero Ermano Fossati – Variante del Mulo” (VM).

This stretch of trail is well signaled and goes downhill.
You join the bigger trail turning right, proceeding downhill for about 300 meters to reach the “Grotta del Mulo” (Mule’s Cave). (The direction of the trail is now: South).
After the visit to the cave, just follow the downhill trail to reach the paved road (500 meters) SP17 that leads (right direction) to the square of Perti Alto. In this stretch, that’s 800 meters long, you are going walk by the church of Saint Benedetto and the church “Dei Cinque Campanili”.
