ROCCA DI PERTI – BRIC DELLA CROCE

ITINERARY: ROCCA DI PERTI – QUARRY – BRIC DELLA CROCE

By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS) to “Park Chiazzari”: you take the first way out to the right in the roundabout, and you drive on the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale SS1), direction Ventimiglia, for about 350 m. Then, you turn right to the SP490 until the roundabout in Finalborgo. You take the first way out and then you turn left joining the SP17 towards “Calice Ligure”.  After 5,1 Km (from the train station) you turn right into a narrow street that climbs the hill. The paved road will turn into unpaved. You can park your car in one of the spaces alongside the road (the biggest one is on the unpaved road, next to a big bend and to a landslide).

Trail classification: trail of geological interest
Level: Medium

Duration: 3 h         Length: 5,6 Km          Elevation gain: 220 m

The first half of the trail goes all uphill and some stretches may result a bit challenging.

The trail starts on the paved road where you parked your car, climbing the “Rocca di Perti”. This road was once used to reach the quarry of a typical stone (Pietra del Finale).

During the way up to the summit, we encounter many climbing areas (look for them in our climbing section).

Follow the unpaved road to reach the abandoned quarry that still provides quite a good spectacle, even if the vegetation has taken possession of it.

Now, you have to turn left into the narrow trail to keep climbing the “Rocca di Perti”. In this stretch there are many panoramic spots (where you can admire the whole valley until the sea) and you might meet some climbers,  thanks to the crags that rise just by the trail. Once you pass over the climbing area called “Pancia dell’Elefante” (it’s visible on your left hand side, below the trail, in a very panoramic spot), the trail joins a wooded stretch to reach a first crossroad  (after 150m) where you will have to go left (following the same trail mark). Then you will run into a second crossroad: the trail on the left leads to the famous rock erosion formation “formaggette” and “the everlasting  water bowl”; instead, the trail on the right leads to the cave “Grotta delle Anime” (many human remains were found inside this cave); if you keep going straight on, the trail leads to the peak “Bric della Croce”. (This last stretch is also signaled with three red balls).

Form the Rocca di Perti’s summit you can enjoy a great view over the sea, the mount “Caprazoppa”, the village Gorra and the valley of Calice.

Turn around and follow back your steps downhill to get back to the starting point.
