ITINERARY: VARIGOTTI – ARMA DELLE MANIE – VARIGOTTI
By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS): you take the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale 1) towards Varigotti (direction: Savona). Go through Varigotti for about 1 Km and park your car in the big parking area next to the street “Strada Vecchia”.

The trail is well signaled and easily walkable. The first stretch goes up steeply
The trail starts from the intersection of the street “Strada Vecchia” with “Strada degli Ulivi”.
It starts going up for 500 m among the olive tree groves that are typical of this area and it reaches a barrier that blocks the passage of the bikes.
At this point, you turn right and you walk by a Madonna placed into a little cave (on your left hand side) and you continue for 100 meters to run into an important fork: you have to turn right (you actually are on the trail called “Sentiero Balcone sul Mare”). This stretch of the trail offers great views over the coastline (it’s also very popular among the bikers and we recommend you to pay attention).
Just after 600 m you are going to run into another fork: turn left abandoning the trail “Sentiero Balcone sul Mare” and keep going uphill for about 350 m until you reach another fork where you will have to turn left again.
This stretch of the itinerary goes downhill (750 m) to the paved road (the road that leads to Isasco).
Once you reach the paved road, the trail mark changes.
Trail mark: two red squares
The trail is well signaled and easily walkable.
You cross the road and you take the trail that goes up the hill on the other side of the road. This trail ends up in to another paved road. Again, you will have to cross it, turn left, walk it by for a few meters and then join the trail on your right hand side. The trail now goes on next to some houses and, after 200 m, it divides itself into two trails (they both lead to the same point but we invite you to take the one on your right hand side, as it is easier to walk). Then, the trail joins a larger unpaved road. Keep going on this road for about 500 m and turn right at the last fork (next to a camping area) to join the paved road SP45.
You have now to walk by this road for about 150 m to reach, on the opposite side of the road, a large unpaved road (just after a big bend).
This road leads to a new crossroad (600 m): turn right on the paved road, crossing the little bridge. Then, you turn left and pass by the church of “san Giacomo”. It starts now the last part of the itinerary that is going to lead you, in 300 m, to a square. Just before the square, on your left hand side, a narrow trail goes down to reach the cave called “Arma delle Manie”.
Turn around and follow back your steps to get back to the starting point and the car.
It is also possible, in the return trip, to choose a different way: when you are on the paved road for Isasco, you turn right and you go downhill on the road for some meters to reach, on the opposite side of the road, a new trail. This new trail leads to the Madonna you met at the start of the itinerary, in just 300 m.
