ITINERARY: PERTI ALTO – “GROTTA DELL’EDERA”
By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS): you take the first way out to the right in the roundabout, and you drive on the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale SS1), direction Ventimiglia, for about 350 m. Then, you turn right to the SP490 until the roundabout in Finalborgo. You take the first way out and then you turn left joining the SP17. After 1,7 km of driving, you will have to turn right following the signal “Perti Alto” into a narrow and uphill road. This road leads to the square of Perti Alto. You keep going on this road overstepping the Church “dei cinque Campanili”, the Church of Saint Benedetto, the “Contrada Valle” and parking on the big unpaved square on your right.

The trail is NOT signaled, easily walkable and uphill.
Just between the parking square and the “Contrada Valle”, by a niche, starts a narrow trail that cross the small creek alongside the road. Hereafter, the trail passes through an old farmhouse to finally start the real climb. After 200 meters, you will find a fork: abandon the actual trail to follow the new one on your right that goes uphill again. After some steps you will encounter a new fork: if you go to the left, you will arrive to a climbing crag called “Parete Centrale”; the trail on the right heads to the cave “Grotta dell’Edera” instead. Later, you will also find two others climbing crags: “Lo Specchio” and “La Parete Dimenticata”.
After that you will finally arrive to the entrance of the “Grotta dell’Edera”.

Si tratta di un grande cilindro roccioso a cielo aperto, generato dal crollo della volta che ricopriva questa grande grotta posta internamente alla Parete Dimenticata. Un luogo conosciuto per la sua valenza geologica e per la presenza suggestiva dell’Edera che ne ricopriva le pareti internamente ed esternamente. La grotta è raggiungibile da tre diverse altezze.
L’ingresso inferiore è accessibile senza dover fare obbligatoriamente uso dell’attrezzatura da arrampicata. Bisogna risalire la grossa frana (circa 15 m) fino a giungere lo stretto passaggio ascensionale che permette di accedere alla base della grande sala a cielo aperto. In loco, sono presenti delle corde utilizzate come corrimano. Durante la risalita, fate sempre molta attenzione.
Superando l’entrata inferiore, e risalendo circa 20 m, tenendosi sulla sinistra costeggiando le pareti esterne della grotta, si trovano le altre due vie di accesso: quella centrale e quella dal tetto. Attenzione, entrambe le vie richiedono l’uso di attrezzatura adeguata.
