ITINERARY: VERIGOTTI – THE TURRET OF PUNTA CRENA – SAN LORENZO’S CHURCH
By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS): you take the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale 1) towards Varigotti (direction: Savona). Go through Varigotti for about 1 Km and park your car in the big parking area next to the street “Strada Vecchia”.

The trail starts from the square “Piazza dei Pescatori” into the old town center of Varigotti. Just after 100 m walking by a narrow alley, you take the steep trail on your right hand side.
Follow up this trail and turn right at the next fork (a little statue of the Madonna stands there) to reach, in 150 m, the small sighting tower called “Torretta di Punta Crena”. The tower dominates Varigotti and the whole coastline from west (you can even see the isle “gallinara”) to east (Cape of Noli).
After that, turn back to the fork (the one with the Madonna’s statue) and, this time, keep going straight on to visit the remains of a Castrum (Castle) dated back probably to the Byzantine age.
The trail goes now down the hill to join the paved street “Strada Vecchia”. Cross the street and take the steep trail that goes up the hill. Here the trail mark changes.

The trail is well signaled and goes uphill.
The trail goes up for 350 m, offering a beautiful view over the coastline, to run into a large crossroad. Turn right (the trail goes downhill) to reach in 100 m the church of “San Lorenzo” (the place offers one of the most beautiful panorama in the area). (If you turned left at the crossroad, you would join the famous trail “Sentiero del Pellegrino”).
Turn around and follow back your steps to get back to Varigotti from “ Strada Vecchia”.
